App Review

Mapillary is a crowdsourced photography mapping app that uses simple smartphones, action cameras or a 360-degree camera like GoPro to capture photos that can be integrated into the street view. The app’s computer vision and machine learning automatically coordinate photos across users and across time.

If you’re worried about the privacy factor, don’t! The processor can detect faces and license plates and blurs them to respect your privacy rights. Its built on a  SaaS model at $200/month or $1,000/ month subject to the level of data usage.

Mapillary co-founder Jan Erik Solem envisions to “map the word with photos” and his future ambition is to tell stories about places through pictures so people can make wiser decisions about places they wish to explore. Yubin Kuang, Johan Gyllenspetz, and Peter Neubauer are the other three pillars beside Solem that co-founded this visionary venture. The company is backed by 7 investors with an aggregate funding of $9.5. Million in 2015 and 2016.
